***NOTE: Lessons are offered from September through June only***

We offer lessons in what is often referred to as “off-hand glassblowing”, which involves the gathering of molten glass from a furnace with a blowpipe.

I will be teaching about glassblowing in a way that you will hopefully understand what you are doing and why, and are able to perform most of the steps involved in the process.

The primary focus in glassblowing must always be on safety, so all classes will start with a discussion of safety issues.

Beginning classes will start with blowing floats, the most basic form of blown glass. The first floats will be made with a single gather of glass, then with two. Other forms can be attempted as skills develop. Of course, you get to keep the pieces you create!

The instructor will first demonstrate each piece that will be blown, explaining each step of the process. Then the student works on doing the same thing.

If you look at the Rate Table below, you'll see that the rates per person go down as more people are added to the class. Of course, there’s also less hands-on time for each person as the groups get larger.

Once we get up to groups of more than 4 students, I’ll handle the class as more of a “workshop”, where everyone will have plenty to learn, but not everyone will likely be able to physically participate.

You can pay for any number of hours you'd like at one time - for now I'll be offering 1-8 hour blocks. You can either use your hours all in one shot for a marathon session, or come in an hour at a time over a few weeks.
